The Chancel Blog ~ Week Eight Photos

Archdeacon Luke Miller paid us a visit. Further remedial works were identified, and James took some more stunning fish-eye shots!

On Monday we welcomed Archdeacon Luke to come and have a look at what we have done since he came to inspect the walls and ceilings back in 2010 when we first thought of doing it, and he was merely the ‘Acting’ Archdeacon! It reminded us of how much water has gone under the bridge since then, and how much effort, money and commitment has been invested, and now we are beginning to see the fruits of that.

Nevertheless costs continue to rise as many ‘little’ items are being identified that we should really do while scaffolding is up. Window ledges are deteriorated badly, and the Chancel wall needs filling and repainting.

We made a very exciting discovery however: Inside the arch of the East Window we found some inscriptions, one by the painters who had worked on it, and another recording the fact that the ceiling was painted in celebration of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. So it is very exciting that this project connects one jubilee to another!
